Finding Articles at Truman College Library

Truman College Library has a number of print and electronic magazines, newspapers, and journals that you can either read for pleasure or use for your research. For help finding articles in the databases, the first stop you should make is to the Reference Desk. Here, a librarian can help you to navigate our databases and other library resources.

Online Databases

Truman College Library subscribes to many online databases. In these databases, you can find articles to read for pleasure and articles you can use in your research. From the library website, select Online Databases. Each database is divided by subject. So, if you were doing a paper on heart disease, you would look under Nursing, Medicine, and Allied Health; if you were giving a speech on standardized testing, you may want to search under the Education or Current Issues databases. You can use these databases in the library, OR you can use them at home – just login with your Truman ID and password.

ESL Databases

Some of the databases at Truman College Library are excellent resources for ESL learners.

This database contains practice tests for TOEFL, TOEIC, and U.S. Citizenship. You can find these under the “International Tools” tab. You can also take the latest GED practice exam in both English and Spanish, which you can find under the “High School Tools” tab. ACT, SAT, and CLEP tests can be found under the “College Tools” tab. For some of the tests, online test prep courses are available.

The ELL Reference Center provide research articles written specifically for English Language Learners. You can find information on history, science, literature, and more. Just use the search box at the top to type in your keywords and find information on your topic.


Magazines, Newspapers, and Print Journals

The library subscribes to a number of print magazines, newspapers, and journals that you can read at the library. We also keep back issues of many of these magazines and journals, so you can look up older articles. You can also look up past articles in the onlineĀ databases.
